The British Virgin Islands (BVI) became autonomous in 1967. BVI is a British overseas territory, executive authority is vested in the Queen and is exercised on her behalf by the Governor of the British Virgin Islands, population – 32 680.

The legal system of British Virgin Islands is based on the English Common Law.
