The 2016 Index of Economic Freedom ranks the degree of economic freedom in 178 economies around the world. Ten factors are assessed: business freedom, trade freedom, fiscal freedom, government spending, monetary freedom, investment freedom, financial freedom, property rights, freedom from corruption, and labor freedom.

Hong Kong, for the 22nd consecutive year, has maintained its position as the world’s top freest economy with an overall score of 88,6 (on a scale from 0 to 100), and have left Singapore and New Zealand behind with 87,8 and 81,6 score points.

The Foundation highlighted Hong Kong zero tariff rates and its open economy in the world for trade and investment, as well as its highly competitive and well-capitalized financial sector with prudent economic policy and fiscal discipline which stands for low and simple tax regime.
